The University of Southampton Grant

Sterling Road’s University of Southampton Grant gives £1,000 to 25 teams per year.

If you need a little help to get started on your project, this grant is for you. We are looking for exceptional founders who are passionate and ready to start building.

The grant is focused on students and alumni of the University of Southampton, you can apply with any idea but most grants will go to software projects and traditionally overlooked founders.

The application shouldn’t take more than 10-15 minutes to complete and we will aim to give applicants a response within 30 days.

Application Process

What to Expect

The application process is designed to be quick and easy, so you can get started on your project ASAP.

Here’s a rough outline of what to expect: Apply online > Video call > Basic Diligence Checks > Grant Sent

Once you receive your grant, there’s no additional requirements but all recipients can join regular group sessions to discuss their project and get help. You will also have access to server credits and accelerator preparation courses.

Why are you doing this?
It's not easy to start a company, and many people with a lot of talent don't get a chance to build a startup. Our hope is that this grant can help some people get started who wouldn’t be able to otherwise.

Are there any commitments for grant recipients?
If you’re selected for a grant, we will invite you to attend a monthly check in session with other recipients, to get help and get advice. These sessions are optional and you can attend for as long as it makes sense for your project.
